FULL DESCRIPTION!
Gravesky
Gravesky is a snowshoe cat. This is to say he is a off-shoot Siamese-type cat. His clear, sky-blue eyes are framed with an almost mask-like black pattern on his face. That, in combination with his black nose creates a mark almost like that of a skull on his maw. The rest of his soft, short-haired pelt is a sandy-tinted cream, save for his white underbelly and paws.
If a two-leg were to observe Gravesky they might remember a famous two-leg that said to "speak softly and carry a big stick." This is true because while he may be somewhat large in size, his voice is rather quiet, and he says little. This, along with his soulful blue-eyes, make him appear very wise and understanding.
PERSONALITY!
This appearance of wisdom is luckily also matched by a knack for wisdom. Cats who go to Gravesky for advice will not be disappointed. On top of this he is also very well-tempered and slow to anger. He rarely speaks, and when he does his words hold weight. This is because, to the cream-pelted cat, words without meaning are void. The elders always quote how younger cats waste their words, and yet they too prattle on about senseless things. Their thinking is muddled by unimportant things. This isn't to say that Gravesky looks down on them. Hardly, he holds a great respect for all the other cats in his clan; however, he does make a point to stay clear-headed, intentional, and direct, which, of course, makes him a wonderful strategist. On another point, Gravesky has never been power-hungry in his life, his only goal was to help others attain this sense of clear-headedness that he possessed. Perhaps, this is why no cat raised a paw when he was appointed leader. While a handful of cats in the clan viewed Frigidscorn as being dubious, Gravesky was the epitome of wisdom and thought. He was a cat that could be trusted to take good care of the clan.
Beyond all the qualities that make him a wise leader though, Gravesky does have short-falls. These issues he takes special care to cover up. One, for example, is the fact that he trusts no one. This may seem odd given all of his very positive qualities, but as he grew in wisdom the thing that he learned most is that others will fail you. They certainly may try their best, but you must always have a back up plan, and you should never leave something in another cat's paws that could ruin you. This is part of why he spoke so little. Words make a cat most vulnerable. Words make smart cats look idiotic and make prideful cats into jokes. Words are truly the greatest danger.
Words are only part of the issue though. While the tom tends to be very well-tempered and relaxed, he absolutely cannot stand excuses or lazy cats. While he does not say anything to reprimand those cats, he does keep a mental tally of who dilly-dallies the most. This helps him determine who gets an apprentice or another special honor and who gets to go on patrols of any sort. This also decides who he speaks to or is willing to give wisdom too. Many cats come to him for advice, and normally he will give some short advice despite being rather terse; however, if a cat is on his "lazy" list he will dismiss them as quickly as possible and sometimes skimps on the proper advice because he feels they will fail to use it properly anyway. Somewhat relative to this is that he hates being talked down to and being treated like one of those simple-minded, lazy cats.
HISTORY!
When his litter was born, his fellow kits mewled up a storm. Gravekit, on the other hand, was extremely taciturn. This is what earned him his name. He was the very definition of serious. He realized quickly that kits were thought of as "nothings" in the clan, and that was not what he wanted. He wanted to become "something" and so he began to learn. While other kits sped about and played, Gravekit was consulting the elders for their greatest insights and discussing with the queens their best living advice. He realized quickly that by gaining knowledge, he gained respect.
Because of his discipleship to learning, Frigidscorn had given Gravekit an unusual honor. At the age of five moons he was apprenticed out to one of her favorite warriors. She recognized how sharp a learned he was and he recalled briefly an encounter in which she had told him she had great plans for him. That all seemed odd, but he made it a point to continue his learning the best he could under his new mentor. Unfortunately, the apprenticeship process was not as tedious as he had hoped. He wanted to be challenged but everything just seemed to come easily. He had been quite irritated with his leader at one point, and this was the only time he had ever spoken out in anger to an older cat, let alone a cat in such a high position, but the leader just smirked and explained that this was why she had told him she had plans for him.
At his warrior ceremony, Frigidscorn gave him the name Gravesky due to the sky-like quality of his eyes, his most notable quality. It was certainly a good name, though it did irk him a bit that some of the younger cats nicknamed him "Gravy", whatever that meant. Despite this, as a warrior he excelled. Every day he earned a deeper respect for his clan and grew in respect for those around him. All this time he'd been accumulating bits of wisdom, and so now, finally, as a warrior, other cats were coming to him for advice. It was a most exciting feeling being able to inspire and help others.
It was no surprise that he was quickly given an apprentice. His apprentice, to his surprise, was much unlike him, the disciplined warrior. His apprentice was quick to act and spoke almost constantly. Were it not for the fact he was so good at and putting his emotions behind him, he would have gone mad. The good news was that his apprentice was not lazy. That would have sent him over the edge. He can fix anything but laziness, for his was only to instruct. If the cat could not deal with his own issues and apply the advice, the apprentice would never grow into the warrior he was meant to be.
At 28 moons, Gravesky was a warrior entering his prime. Frigidscorn took note of this, and when a new deputy was needed, he was the first choice on her list, both greatly respected in the clan and in her eyes a strategist prodigy. In his tenure as deputy, he slowly began to catch on to the fact that she had some ulterior motives. At first it was only here or there, but one particular conversation made it fairly clear what her motives were for him. When she finally stepped down it was no surprise to him that she continued to make "suggestions" to him.
As a leader he has had a bit of a difficult time between the diseases going around and the more recent lack of prey. When it came time for him to choose his deputy he chose Nightrun because he seemed to keep a rather cool head most of the time and that was one of his most desired qualities in a cat. While the clan is still undergoing many tribulations, he as great hope for the future.
RP EXAMPLE!
[Since I can't exactly rp this anywhere else, yay, a Fridge and Gravy post]
Black ears piqued as a harsh voice whispered, I chose you for a reason, you know." Clear eyes stared forward, unaffected. "You're a prodigy, Gravesky. A real prodigy. I know you will be great someday, if you listen to me." A catch, always a catch with this one, but his attention did not stray for a moment. "I can let you lead the clan someday if you so prove yourself. I'm sure you will. You're rather brilliant. You're quite wise." While this was not untrue, he felt a certain kind of irritation boiling in the back of his brain. He was always open to advice, but to be told he had to "prove" himself? And rather? And quite? He was those things. He was actualized if any cat in this clan was; still he held his tongue. "Unfortunately, the last deputy I had didn't last very long. Cloudheart just lacked a certain type of compliance that ShadowClan needed, but that wouldn't be a problem with you..." The question hung in the air as two pairs of bright blue eyes stared through each other. "I will do what is needed to tend to our clan," he responded in a hushed tone. Inwardly he smirked at her believing he would bend to her will so simply. No, their clan came first--before her. If she continued to talk down to him like some brain-muddled kit, everything else would come before her too. "Excellent," she purred as she circled him, her eyes sizing him up like a piece of prey, "Such a shame Cloudheart couldn't be like you. I wonder what ever happened to him..." Her words trailed off, but this was hardly a question, more a threat.
Baby, how I dream of being free since my birth,
Cursed, but the demons I confronted would disperse...
A chill ran down his spin as she spoke. With all the disappearances in the clan lately, it was plausible that Cloudheart got sick naturally, but with this interjection, with this emphasis, he felt unsettled. "We can't live in the past." He replied tersely, his countenance unchanging. No matter what she did, he would not show weakness. That would be an invitation for his submission, which he surely did not desire. If something befell him, so be it, but he would not let discomfort make his decisions for him. He would be who he set out to be, and no one else. Luckily for his center of focus though, the dark ruler seemed content with his answers. It was much easier to be strong, when one wasn't challenged. For a moment, he could have sworn he caught a hint of something malicious in her gaze, but it had passed just as quickly as it came. All that mattered now was that he had aced her little test, or whatever that was, because ShadowClan would need a true leader one day. It would need one not so dubious as the current ruler. That being said, he could be a bit duplicitous himself, but he was much better at covering it and he never had lurid intent. The way he saw it he would follow her little rules as long as it served him and the clan, and one day, when he had power, when she no longer held sway, he would help to make ShadowClan what it should be--help to make the forest what it should be--cats of all clans living in harmony. There was no need for intolerance anymore, no reason for hate. Indeed, in this troubled time, the clans needed each other more than they ever had before. Why Frigidscorn was too blinded by her own ambitions to see that was far beyond him.
