AGE! 35 moons
RANK! Warrior
GENDER! Tom
CLAN! WindClan
SHORT DESC.!
Large muscled black tom with amber eyes and scars around his shoulders.
FULL DESCRIPTION!
Darkshade is a large tom, well built and well muscled. His pelt is short, but thick. The darkness of his pelt allows him to blend into the
night, a pitch ravenous black. His tail is short, and slender, but
slightly thicker as it goes up along it. Though he's well built, he's
not over-sized, just enough to show off. He's rather tall, long and
slender for his build, fast. He has scarlet amber eyes.
PERSONALITY!
He is an extremely perceptive and serious tom, able to quickly to discern cats abilities and difficulties. Though he seems indifferent and
irreverent, he's very loyal to his clan. He does have his 'moments'
where he does whats good for the clan rather than what the Leader says.
He's mentored several warriors, and well experienced in fights.
However, he teaches those he mentors with the philosophy his father had taught him: Claws and fangs are used to cut only when needed and not used to cut anything if it is not necessary. While serious, Blackshadow is very
easily irked by others. However abrasive and ruthless he may seem, he
has a compassionate nature and a desire to protect. He promises to kill anyone who dares take away those he wants to protect; and if he can't kill the enemy, he'd rather kill those he loves himself. His mother told him at
a time that was the way a Queen thought when she kitted alone; if
anything dare came too close to her kits that she couldn't kill herself,
she'd eat the kits.
He likes small groups of company, which makes it easy for him to train young cats and make time to train for himself. He does seem to have a temper and goes off on loud or annoying cats who bother him, those who think irrationally, or anyone who creates a bad situation.
He's not the most intelligent cat, but he is wise.
HISTORY!
Darkshade grew up with a close family. His father was brave, loyal, strong and proud, and his mother a 'Nursery Queen', a kind and gentle warrior she-cat who loved to stay in or close to the Nursery and was
first to protect the Nursery if the camp was raided. Darkshade had
been an energetic and outgoing kit who never wanted to disappoint his
mother and wanted to be just like his father. Under his father,
Hawktalon's mentoring, Darkshade was trained in powerful techniques
his father worked on. As an apprentice, his ambition was to become
stronger, not for the sake of being strong, but so he could use his
strength to protect the Clan and its cats.
As a senior apprentice, trouble began. His mother, Shiningmoon had grown ill, often collapsing, and when she started coughing up blood, Darkpaw went out of his way to make sure she was comfortable in the Medicine Cat Den and later the Elders Den. Hawktalon was fighting in battles, or protecting the clan from two dogs who were let out at night at least every other night, with other warriors. One day, Darkpaw was coming back from hunting to find
the older tom seriously injured and claws horridly damaged. The young
tom forced him into the Medicine Cat Den, and once his wounds stopped
bleeding, Shiningmoon told her mate she loved him, and he left, telling
Darkpaw to fight with strength enough to fight for those he loved.
Right after Hawktalon left, Shiningmoon collapsed again. Though she was in
critical condition, the Medicine Cat had found out moons before it
wasn't contagious, and the Warrior asked to be taken to see the Queens,
hearing a new litter was being born that day. Telling her he'd check
first, he left her in the den and scampered into the Nursery. While
inside, the scent of dog was overwhelming the camp, and as the camp went
into panic, he rushed out to find the beautiful silver and white
she-cat who had been his mother was killed by the one of two giant beast
running about the camp. One of the dogs approached him while the other
was having difficulties with other warriors. The dog was holding the
body of Hawktalon in his jowls, growling at him. Darkpaw's resolve
broke and in fierce rage he charged at the dog. When the battle with the
dogs had finally ended, both horribly injured and leaving dead and
injured cats in their own wake, the leader went about to see who the
clan had lost. They found Darkpaw, tufts of the dogs fur between his
claws, in the ruins of what was left of the Medicine Cat Den, still
crouching over his parents bodies. Too shocked to fully comprehend all
that had happened, he attacked the leader and was pinned by older,
injured warriors. They understood his sanity was wavered. He had to be
kept in the Medicine Cat Den for a time while they tried to convince him
to let his parents go. Their bodies were still protected, crouched
over, and when cats went near him he growled and lashed out. He had lost
weight, and was dizzy, not sleeping at all. Finally, some she-cat who
had noticed his actions padded up to him, ignoring the growls and snarls
and slashes, whispering to him it was time to let them sleep, and
closed the dead cats eyes. At those simple words, he snapped out of his
madness. Realization swept over him and he broke down in tears, and
finally, exhausted, collapsed to sleep. When he woke up, he was cleaned
and bandaged. Two nights later, he was granted his warrior name. He
could finally continue his fathers wishes.
He still kept eyes on the boarder, daring the dog to come back so he could finish it off. However, he learned in time that it was best none of the dogs returned. He had grown to accept there wasn't anything he could do about the past. In time he also came to terms that the she-cat who had freed him from his madness had been what had been lingering of his mothers spirit. He had hoped to see her again, but he wasn't special.
He let her go, though he hated the thought. He was never one to think he'd fall in love easily, and it was hard enough to get along with so it just didn't seem to happen. Instead, Darkshade has been training apprentices. He's helped three warriors become the cats that they are, and he
doesn't like the thought of training a young she-cat; he believes they should be protected and installs those morals into his training.
