--- poised, confident, agile. all words that describe the first-impression one might perceive from a tom such as pebblestripe. with a face almost as wide as his chest, this tom might not always be called handsome, but sometimes a better personality does what looks cannot. albeit, this tom does have some fancying aspects about him, which include his lucid, fluent pelt colors and markings, as well as the dangerous allure of his eyes.
with markings that resemble the natural breed in his genes, pebblestripe has a general slate-brown pelt color, with tabby markings of brown and grey slid between. his chest and underfur is white, often more of a smokey grey color due to the uncleanliness and mis-tidings of his job, he likes to keep his chest fur rumpled and ruffled- he feels it gives him more of a wild appearance, instead of one that resembles the phrase, "oh there goes that medicine cat again. how boring.' his coat begins to turn a more sand-like color as the brown rings that encircle his paws near the base, giving him almost marble-like swirls. despite all of his wild and miss-matching markings, pebblestripe seems to have a way of making it blend all together, even it doesn't quite give off the neat or tidy appearance and connotation.
his natural fur most likely doesn't help, however, for it's long, thick, and often prone to becoming matted. when truth me told, the tom spends quite a long time grooming his fur in the morning, attempting to look less like a street cat after a rough nights sleep. his fur helps give him a more mysterious appearance, however, for the long wisps around his ears and muzzle help to hide his moss-green eyes, which are often his key to success. he doesn't try to keep his most prominent feature in the dark for no reason, however, for when he was only a mere newly made apprentice, the tom was attacked, and suffered a battle scar, that runs from the top of his right eye to the bottom, although only sometimes visible.
PERSONALITY!
--- down to earth is phrase well known to this tom-cat. pebblestripe seems to work it into all aspects of his life. calm, serene, level-headed. getting down to his heart, this tom is built off of these words. he puts himself in front of the battle in order to stop it, despite his rank. he simply believes in talk it out, listen to what others have to say...because sometimes you won't hear them again.
laughter. patience. it's a natural born talent to keep others happy and not blow up. whether it be a kit trying to relay a story that a tall tale, or an apprentice trying to learn and just not quite understanding it... this tom knows how to keep his cool and help them along. he'll do anything to keep those around him happy; even if it means letting his own happiness slip a little. it's him before others and for that, many rely on him like they should be able to. however bottling it all up inside him isn't healthy and he would truly know.
bottling it up inside, and shaving off his own time to understand himself really can get to him. and sometimes he tries to decipher himself as well as he seems to decipher and uncover the stories behind others. pebblestripe is quite the analytic cat and takes in all he observes. but being well acquainted with others doesn't mean he understands himself. because of this, he often finds himself lonely, and for this finds himself in the situation of being a hopeless romantic. he's one to fall easily as most she-cats do. however this tom requires a strong willed she-cat who can act as his other half to help him through his times. often times he doesn't seem to have many friends though he always seems to help others.
HISTORY!--- pebblestripe didn't always know he was destined to become a medicine cat. in fact, as he was a wee kit growing up in the nursery with his sister, petalkit, he never quite imagined himself in the position he finds himself in today. he was somewhat of a sickly cat- not quite as severe as chronic. his sister was sickly, too, however, she was a fighter, a true one at that, and never let anyone see her sick-- for the most part. pebblestripe, on the other, despite his passion and will burning inside to keep his secrets of his health to himself, knew he was only a kit, perhaps wise beyond his years, but a kit nonetheless, and kits were the future of the clan. he grew up in and out of the medicine cats den, much like briarlight did in the series after her accident. he was never one to try and help the medicine cat, or to even bother to learn the scents or the names of the different herbs, however, he would often talk to the other cats who were trapped inside the den, and give them a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, or a punching bag for all of their pent up frustration and energy. as explain in his personality, pebblestripe has only ever been a cat to want to do his best to help.
however, as he grew into the age of apprenticeship, he grew less sickly, and quite stronger. it was his sister, still petalkit for her underlying weakness and absolved horror at the fighting ways of a warrior, who continued to grow weaker and weaker, until eventually, on the even before pebblestripe's apprentice ceremony, she perished. pebblestripe was distraught with grief, and turned to the only cat he felt he knew well enough to talk to-- the medicine cat. after being cooped up inside the den for at least three and a half moons of his life thus far, the tom had come to know the current medicine cat quite well. so, he turned to him for help, and found nothing but faith, hope, and comfort. pebblestripe saw reflection of himself in the old tom, if only he didn't notice it until later, and that's when he began to realize that perhaps there was more to life than fighting tooth and claw.
partially for himself and partially to honor his deceased sister, pebblestripe asked the medicine cat for guidance, as well as an apprenticeship. once accepted, pebblestripe feared starclan might reject him for all of his neglect to properly train as a kit. they did not seem angry in the least bit, however, which came to the delight of the young tom. as the rest of his nursery mates began to train with their warrior mentors and fill into their respective rolls in clan society, so did pebblestripe. for the first three moons of his apprenticeship with the medicine cat, the young tom trained harder than ever. he memorized all the herbs, all of the scents, all of the tastes, and all of the textures. by eleven moons, he could recognize coltsfoot from ten fox-lengths away. his nose had begun to develop into a more keen, acute sense, which served him well when his fellow mentor fell ill.
forced to care for the tom, pebblestripe began to worry as the old medicine cat, unknown to be old to most, grew weaker and weaker. although the tom was still fighting when pebblestripe neared the age of twenty two or so moons, his memory had long began to fade, as well as his ability to care for the cats of the clan. stepping up to the plate, pebblestripe worked his tail off for moons upon moons, caring for the sick, the injured, the kitting, and the just plain annoying, until finally, on the eve before an annual meeting of the medicine cats, his mentor passed away. despite being stricken with guilt and grief that he himself had not done enough for the elder tom, pebblestripe vowed to do his absolute best, and more, for every cat, not just of his clan or of his forest home, but of everywhere, despite where they came from, where they would go, or anything else. pebblestripe knew his life's roll was to help others, and he was bound and determined to play his role dutifully.
