shadowclan patrols !
Hello, my pretties! Welcome to Patrol Headquarters, a place where you can earn precious Patrol and Prey points! Now, Prey Points can be earned any old place, sure, provided you can recruit a moderator on your little side-hunt. But why not make it legit? Why don't you step up, be brave, and sign up for a patrol? You and your Clanmates can earn points and have fun, exploring the territory-- marking the borders-- or maybe just going on a nice hunt to get food for the Clan. Note that all Patrols must have had at least 10 posts before they are valid. You must have some questions, so here are a few common ones:
» Why patrol? It shows that the cat in question is an active and productive member of the Clan and pulls their own weight. If an apprentice has never been on patrol, obviously they're not worthy of becoming a warrior. If a warrior never does anything but stroll around mindlessly in the woods, he obviously should never have been promoted in the first place. Also, you get handy lil' points that can also count towards Clan prestige.
» How can you use Prey/Patrol Points? First, your cat cannot advance in rank from apprentice to warrior until you have the required number of points. That means little Brownpaw is stuck as Brownpaw until someone hauls his lazy tail up and sends him on border patrol. Also: should a deputy spot open up, you're not even eligible unless you have at least ten points on that particular character.
Note that the points are not transferable, as in you can't shift all the points that Brownface has been earning in ThunderClan over to lazy Blackbelly in ShadowClan. You also can't shift Brownface's points to a different member's cat: once they're earned, they're stuck.
Second, it's much more likely that your characters will succeed to breed/produce a litter of kittens if you regularly go on patrol. Unless the cat is fit and a useful member of the Clan, attempts at... impregnation... will surely fail. The more points on the parent cat/cats, the more possibilities open up to you such as requesting genders, appearances, and a healthy brood.
» How do I get Prey Points without going on Patrol? Merely tag a mod or PM an administrator (or High Position in that particular Clan) and they will play some moderated prey in whichever thread you want. You do not get Prey Points unless a moderator takes charge-- you can't just hop into the forest, make yourself slay a whole nest of squirrels, and come back expecting loads of points for your efforts. Once you've secured the prey, post in the Fresh Kill Pile Sticky to redeem the prey for points. Patrol Points will be awarded directly through the thread.
Common Types of Patrols:HUNTING PATROL: It comes with the very simple task of catching as much prey as possible for the Clan. For every page you complete (note that wordcount isn't important) you will get one Patrol Point. However, note that you get to cash in all the prey you catch, which will in turn deliver you quite a few prey points. You may go on a Hunting Patrol either Solo or with one Partner. Cats are forbidden to eat while hunting.
DAWN PATROL: Takes place early in the morning and involves investigating anything suspicious on the territory that might have happened the night before. This can take place anywhere within the Clan's borders. You might pick up a piece of prey or two along the way, but don't count on it, and goodness knows don't eat it. Patrol Points will be awarded at the moderator's discretion depending on how your characters react to discoveries and obstacles.
BORDER PATROL: This task is in securing the borders, usually either at Sunrise or Sunset. Scent marks must be renewed and signs of trespassers must be noted. Out here, on the fringes of the Clan's vulnerability, you can run into anything and everything along the way. You're allowed to eat on the job, but probably won't run into any prey. If there's anywhere that you'll run into danger, it'll be here, so keep your claws ready. Patrol Points will be awarded at the moderator's discretion depending on how your characters react to attacks or clues.
Uncommon Types of Patrols:SEARCH PATROL: Warriors can be assigned the task to find a missing cat (for instance, a kit or apprentice who wandered away from the camp, like Squirrelpaw in Midnight or Berrykit in Sunset) or to look for information (like searching for Sol in Sunrise). You may not request a Search Patrol, but the option may be given spontaneously to you if you don't request a different one.
MESSAGE PATROL: If a message or question to another Clan is too urgent to wait until the next Gathering, a party can be appointed to bring it to the other Clan's leader. Usually only a few warriors are sent, so they would not be mistaken for a raiding party. They wait at the border until a border patrol from the rival Clan comes to escort them to the camp to speak with their leader. These will likely be in-character threads at special times (not request-able) rather than Patrols, but we'll see.
WATER PATROL: Water patrols are made up of warriors who carry water to the cats staying in the camp (such as queens and elders) during a drought, when the water needs to be fetched from a large distance away. They use bundles of moss to carry it. Unless under special circumstances, this will likely not be necessary, but something similar may occur for Punishments.
TO SHOW UP FOR DUTY: (Post in this thread, please.) Please write a short, one-paragraph post in-character with the cat you want to go on patrol. Please include the following information in your post (don't just post the code itself, that's boring xD).» Character's Name, Rank
» Additional Characters to be included in Patrol (up to three)
» Requested Type of Patrol (optional)
» This thread is primarily run by the Deputy of the Clan, who will serve most often as your moderator. However, the Clan Leader and also other Administrators are allowed to step in and lend a hand if needed.
» Once you ask to go on patrol, please wait patiently for the Deputy or Leader to finish organizing the members in your group. The moderator who will be taking you will post back in a short IC paragraph issuing orders and also the Team Leader once a patrol has been set up.
» They will then start a thread for you in the location of their choice and provide a link: once the thread is up, please remain active and post promptly, or the patrol will be treated as a failure and will be archived if untouched for over a week. Note that all points gained up to that point are null and void unless there are at least ten posts in the 'dead' thread.
» When you have FINISHED your patrol, return to this thread and report to the Clan Deputy about anything you might have seen/witnessed. You may be granted some bonus Patrol points.
